Gum diseases occur slowly over a long period of time. Neglect from the patient is usually the cause of gum problems. Gum problems eventually lead to bone problems like infection of the bone and eventually bone loss.
There are two ways to treat gum problems. One is Non surgically, your dentist will do repeated rounds of scaling and at time apply certain medicaments to hasten healing. The other way to treat gum and bone problems are undergoing minor surgical procedures. During the surgery the dentist will clean the tooth surface that is underlying the gum tissue. At time your dentist will advice bone regeneration using special materials to enhance bone formation.
Your dentist will advice certain X rays before he/she decides which method would be ideal to treat your specific problem.
